Three Ways to Participate in Global Maker Day

Posted by Chris Starr on Oct 17, 2022 11:00:00 AM

Global Maker Day will be celebrated on October 18, 2022. Founded by a group of volunteer educators, the day brings together “makers” from around the world to participate in local maker space events and share ideas and projects globally. Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child Lower School students will be participating in the detailed series of challenges that will be released prior to the event and making good use of our IDEAS Lab, but anyone can participate from anywhere in the world.

The Global Maker Day Website encourages participants to focus on these three main concepts:

LEARN
Use their website to connect virtually and watch makers around the world share different projects, learning spaces, creations, coding, 3D designs, art lessons, etc. There will be a session every half hour and they each will have a connected challenge. When you arrive on their website, you can view the schedule, challenges, and watch live presentations.

SHARE
They will spotlight those that have amazing things to share. Participants should post their pictures and videos of creations using #GlobalMakerDay on Twitter or in the Padlet on their website during and after the event.

PLAY
One part of the event is participating in challenges with opportunities for participants to solve problems, be creative, and play. Challenges will be posted on their website one week prior to the event.

The idea is for participants to create, make and share with the world as they see fit.
No better place to participate than in the Oak Knoll IDEAS Lab. Our IDEAS Lab is super-charged with technology providing students with access to an incredible amount of new opportunities. From learning how to code to learning how to collaborate, create and make. The IDEAS Lab is equipped with robotics, 3-D printing, electronic circuits, virtual reality and augmented reality.
