4 Ways to Get Involved on the International Day of the Girl

Posted by Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child on Oct 11, 2022 12:56:15 PM

October 11, 2022, marks the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the International Day of the Girl (IDG). The United Nations General Assembly declared IDG as a day dedicated to recognizing and highlighting the rights and challenges of girls around the world. The theme for this year is “Our time is now - our rights, our future.”

So how can girls use their voices to highlight the rights and challenges of girls around the world and have both local and global impact?  The United Nations International Day of the Girl Child website offers these four tips:

  • Share human interest stories, blogs and videos of girl changemakers, and the inspiring networks and organizations that are resourcing girls, letting girls lead, and strengthening services for girls. Let’s collectively amplify their leadership, actions, and impact to inspire others.
  • Engage government officials, policymakers and stakeholders to make more targeted investments that tackle inequalities experienced by girls, especially while accessing mental health and psychosocial support services in the face of conflict, forced migration, natural disasters, and the effects of climate change.
  • Engage key female influencers across industries to be the face of change we want girls to see as possible. Role models speak a thousand words. Let’s change the global conversation and public perception of girl leaders. #DayOf TheGirl #IDG22
  • Amplify your commitment to raising awareness about and addressing factors that hold girls in your country and region back.

At Oak Knoll, we engage in empowering young women as learners and leaders. As an all-girls school in grades 7-12, we believe our students develop stronger voices, speak more freely, and are empowered to become bold and confident citizens of the world.

Each of our student’s voices contributes to the mighty and powerful global voice of girls. Together, our students create an open and safe environment for exchanging ideas, sharing stories, respecting each other’s opinions, and leading with confidence, compassion, and resilience. These are all skills that students practice at Oak Knoll.
